In this chapter we (Insh-Allah) will discuss about Muslims going to Graves or Dargahs.
Grave or Shrine.
In Asian countries, especially Barelvi Muslims community may forget to go to mosques but do not forget to go to Grave or Shrine. Believe it or not, but it is true that within a few months the dead body rots inside the Grave or Shrine and turns into soil. And if that Grave or Shrine is dug again in five or seven years. So apart from two-four pieces of bone nothing is found. He is my Lord who will resurrect the dead from this dust by His power on the Day of Resurrection.
And if there is anything at all! As it has been heard about the Prophets that the bodies of the Prophets do not deteriorate. (Although the Qur’an does not bear witness to this). Yet Allah makes it clear in the reference of Grave or Shrine. That these are lifeless bodies. Who do not even know about themselves. Only misguided people can invoke them. In the court of Allah, these called people will be the enemies of the callers. And they will refuse to recognize them. Leave aside the Dargahs, even the Prophets (A.s.) becomes oblivious of this world after his death.
And those whom they invoke besides God do not create anything, but they themselves (their Grave or Shrine and statues, etc.) are made by other people. Are dead, are not alive, and they do not even know when they will be resurrected. (21) Your God is one God (22).
[Q-46:5-6]
And who is more astray than the one who calls upon anyone other than Allah, who does not respond to him until the Day of Judgment? And he does not know about their requests. (5) And on the day people will be gathered together. So, they (participants) will be their enemies. And they will refuse their worship (6).
After dying from this world, prophets (A.S) also become unaware of this world. Allah says that on the Day of Judgment when we will ask Jesus (A. S). Did you (Jesus) tell the people? Deifying me and my mother besides God. Then Jesus (A.S) will say in response! “O my Lord, while I was among them till, I took care of them, but when you took me from the world, you were their guardian.” And you are the witness of everything.
That is! The Eisa (Jesus) will have no news of world after Jesus’ departure from the earth or after his death.
[Q-05:117]
Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) will say in response to Allah’s question: O Lord! I did not say anything to them except what you commanded me. That “Worship Allah who is my and your Lord.” As long as I was among them. I was a witness over them. But when you picked me up, then you became their protector. And You are a witness over everything (117).
The means of nearness to God is righteous action and pure faith.
In the following verses, Allah Almighty says: Are you attracted towards things that can neither do good nor bad? And do you think that these people will intercede for you before God? Or will they bring you closer to God? Or do you want to say that your call does not reach Allah? And do you say to Allah that your Lord has no knowledge of the earth and the sky? Or do you consider the power of Allah inferior? Allah Almighty says in the Qur’an.
[Q-39:03]
Beware! Pure religion is only for Allah. And those who have made friends besides him. And they say that we do not worship them except that they bring us closer to Allah. Surely God will judge between them in matters in which they differ. Indeed, Allah does not guide a liar and a disbeliever. (3)
[Q-10:18]
And they worship other thing than God, which neither harms them nor benefits them, and they say that these are our intercessors with God. Say, do you inform Allah that He has no knowledge in the heavens (of existing creatures)? And nor knowledge in the earth (of existing creatures)? He is pure and exalted above all that they associate. (18).
[Q-06: 71]
Say, shall we call upon those things besides God? Which can neither give us profit nor loss? And after the guidance of Allah, shall we walk backwards like that person whom the Devils have made to forget the path (of truth) in the earth? And his companions call him to guidance. Say, indeed, guidance is from Allah. He is the guide. And we have been commanded to obey by the Lord of the universe. (71).
[Q-50:16-18]
We have created man and We know what his mind whispers. We are closer to him than his aorta. (16) When two scribes (angels) are sitting on the right and left to write. (17) He doesn’t speak a word, but he has patrons ready to write. (18).
[Q-67:13-14]
And whether you say hidden or openly, he knows the secrets of the chest. (13) Can the creator be unaware? He is a keen observer and is aware of everything. (14).
[Q-22:12-13]
He invokes besides God that which can neither harm him nor benefit him, this is a far mistake. (12) He invokes for something that has more harm than good. Indeed, such participants are also bad and such devotees are also bad. (13)
Question?
The God asks His servants that…
[Q-30:35]
Have We revealed to them such any proof that tells them to associate partners with God? (35).
Answer.
God gives orders in answer to His own question.
[Q-39:11-14]
Say O Prophet! I have been commanded to serve God sincerely in religion. (11) And it has also been ordered that I should become a Muslim firstly. (12) Say! If I disobey my Lord, I fear the punishment of a great day. (13) Say! That I worship Allah sincerely in my religion. (14)
[Q-40:14]
So, call upon Allah, being sincerely in His religion, even though the disbelievers continue to hate him (14).
[Q-64:13]
There is no god but Allah and believers should put their trust in Allah alone. (13)
Example.
Allah also gives an example in his answer. Allah says, if three or four men who are against each other come together and buy a slave. [Or bought a slave before the opposition and later became each other’s opponents]. So, this slave will have to serve those four opposing owners. On the other hand, a master has a slave. So, will the status of those two slaves be the same? Consider if you understand. What will happen to those who worship more than one God? Although every polytheist and unbeliever know that the creator of this universe is one.
[Q-39:29-30]
God tells a parable. A slave who has many conflicting masters, and a slave who has only one master. Are these two (slaves) equal in terms in status? (Absolutely not.) All praise is for Allah alone. But most of them do not have knowledge. (29)
[Q-12:106]
And most of them do not believe in God, but that! They certainly associate partners with God. (106).
Prophets cannot speak to the dead. What is the value of the common man?
The verses presented here tell. Those who are buried in the Grave or Shrine cannot see, And can’t even hear. Because after the death of a person, his relationship with this world is broken. And turns into dust in a few days. In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says that even the prophets cannot hear the voice of the dead buried in the graves.
[Q-35:19-23]
And the blind and the sighted are not equal (19) and neither darkness nor light. (20) And neither shade nor heat. (21) And neither the living nor the dead are equal. Allah causes to hear whom He wills, but you cannot make hear those in the grave. (22) Verily, you are only intimidator. (23)
[Q-30:52-53, 27:80-81]
Because (O Muhammad) you cannot make the dead hear, nor can you call the deaf to the Deen while they turn their backs and walk away. (52) Nor can you guide the blind from their error, but only those who believe in Our verses are Muslims. (53).
Invoking of Shrines or Dargahs.
Those who go to shrines and ask for their needs. And they obey the vow. This action of theirs is like a thirsty person spreading his hands towards the water and thinking that the water will come into his mouth. Which can never happen. God has power over everything in the seven heavens and the earth. Any creature has not right to benefit or harm its own self too. And those who follow associate partners other than Allah. And calls for need. In fact, they do not follow these participants. They just follow their conjecture.
Vow.
Indeed, in Islam, it is not haram to accept a vow. But the vow which is accepted with a partner other than God or at a Samadhi or Dargah. Or at other places it is accepted by tying a thread. So, it is haram. This practice is disbelief, and the one who practiced it is a polytheism. A believer should have faith in God and should also take vows only from God. May Allah protect all Muslims.
[Q-13:14]
The call to truth is only for Allah. And to whom else they call besides God. They can’t answer. (i.e. He is not able to give anything) It is like a that thirsty person who stretching out both his hands towards the water, so that the water to reach his mouth. But it cannot reach it. And the supplication of the disbelievers is nothing but misguidance (14).
[Q-10:105-107]
And direct your face to religion, and do not become of the polytheists. (105) And do not call on anything besides God that neither benefits you and nor harms you, because if you do so, you will be among the wrongdoers. (106) And if God afflicts you (because of your misdeeds), there is no one who can remove it except Him, and if He does good for you, there is no one who can stop His grace. He bestows His bounty on whom He wills among His servants. And He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (107).
[Q-13:16]
Say, have you chosen for yourself such saints, who can neither benefit nor harm their own lives? Say, Are the blind and the sighted equal? Are darkness and light equal? (16)
[Q-10:66]
And those who follow or invoke associate partners other than Allah. In fact, they do not follow these participants. They only follow their guesses, and their actions are nothing but speculations. (66).
[Q-12:106]
And most of them do not believe in God, but They associate partners with God. (106).
